Jimmy Saunders graduated from the University of Liège (Belgium) in 1993. After graduation, he joined the Department of Medical Imaging of the same Faculty and spent one year in research on MRI of the canine elbow joint. Following this, he started an alternative residency program in Diagnostic Imaging. During his residency, he gained a Certificate in Veterinary Radiology (CertVR) of the RCVS in 1996. He became Diplomate of the European College of the Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) in 1999 and completed a doctoral thesis (PhD) on ‘CT and MRI of canine nasal aspergillosis’ in 2003. Dr. Saunders is currently Full-Professor at the Ghent University and Director of Education of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He has been Guest Professor at the University of Liège (2012-2015) and at the University of Antwerp (2018-2022). Dr. Saunders was President of the ECVDI (2010-2012), President of the European Board of Veterinary specialists (www.ebvs.org) (2017-2019) and President of Veterinary Continuous Education in Europe (www.vetcee.eu) (2020-2023). The veterinary diagnostic imaging group of Dr. Saunders successfully trained 31 ECVDI (European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging – www.ecvdi.org) specialists. Dr Saunders performed research in many species and all fields of diagnostic imaging resulting in authorship of 290 peer-reviewed articles and 22 successfully defended PhDs since 2007. He is editor of the first veterinary book on computed tomography of all species entitled ‘Veterinary Computed Tomography’.
